Fires occur naturally in Florida, however, land managers also utilize prescribed burning to enhance, restore, and maintain native ecosystems that are dependent on periodic fires.  Many of Little Pine Island’s restored native habitats including hydric pine flatwoods and freshwater marshes are fire dependent ecosystems
