KECE has been involved with wetland reclamation on phosphate mined lands since 1981. These activities include experimental project design and applied research, including permit required wetland monitoring (vegetation, hydrology, water quality, fish, aquatic macroinvertebrates, and wildlife utilization) of reclaimed systems and baseline monitoring of native reference wetlands. Our work for IMC-Agrico consisted of wetland reclamation research projects on more than 475 acres of wetlands, over a 13 year period. For the past 20 years our continuing work with CF Industries has consisted of wetland delineation and wetland monitoring on more than 13,000 acres. The focus of wetland reclamation plans for reclaimed phosphate mined land is the successful re-establishment of appropriate soils, hydrology and plant communities within the created wetlands and adjacent upland communities.
